Admissions
We are delighted that you are considering Newker Primary School as a prospective school for your child. We are passionate about providing the very best education and experiences for all of the children in our care and would love you to come along for a visit to see what we offer.
All applications for places in Reception and Years 1 to 6 do however have to be made through the Durham Local Authority website. The Parents' Guide for applications is also available on the Local Authority website which provides further advice for parents to help them navigate the admission process. To see the criteria for places being offered in school, please use this link.
Please note - a late application for Reception greatly reduces your chances of getting into your preferred school.
There are also a very small number of places available in certain year groups across school. Anyone wishing to transfer their child to Newker is very welcome to arrange a visit to come and meet us and see what we offer our children. However all applications for places must be made via the Local Authority Admissions Department, here. The Parent Portal can be reached via the DCC link below. In the unlikely event that you should you apply for a place and be unsuccessful, you are able to discuss this or appeal the decision. The information about this process can be found here
Currently, our admissions number, also known as the PAN number, is 60 children in each year group except for Y5, where this number is 35. To ask about any places we have available in school, please contact the Local Authority.
We do look forward to meeting you and hope you become as passionate about our school as we all are.

Nursery
Here at Newker we are extremely fortunate to have our own on site Nursery. At present the Nursery is able to offer places to children the term after their 3rd birthday. Most children come to Nursery for 15 hours each week which is funded by the Government. Places are either for 5 morning or 5 afternoon sessions each week.
We do offer the additional 15 hour child care which the Government is funding for parents who meet certain criteria. In the early stages we have limited the number of 30 hour places we have offered and will be reviewing this regularly.
We admit children to Nursery at two points in the year currently. Children who turn 3 in the Autumn term may be admitted in January. Children who turn 3 in the Spring and Summer terms will be admitted to Nursery the following September.
Parents interested in applying for a place for their child are warmly invited to make an appointment to come and have a look around and meet our staff.
All applications for places must be made directly through school and forms may be obtained from our Receptionist, Mrs Haggan or download the application form here and return to our school email: newker@durhamlearning.net.
