Nursery
Hello and welcome to our Nursery class page!
The class teacher is Mrs Armstrong, who is joined by Mrs Newman (LSA) and Mrs Collinson (HLTA) on a Monday all day and Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
The Nursery offers full time, 30-hour provision as well as morning or afternoon places.
In Nursery we plan a play-based curriculum following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which includes a range of activities and experiences that are both adult led and child initiated. We aim to promote a love of learning from an early age.
Our termly topics are carefully planned and reflected in our continuous provision. We have a large creative area, home corner, sand and water play, construction area, sensory play and a superb outdoor area for children to explore. All of our activities are age and stage appropriate and reflect the interest of the children. In Nursery we focus on the children’s social skills like sharing and turn taking, singing songs, listening to stories, physical development and regulating emotions. We also introduce the children to early maths and phonics activities to develop skills in readiness for Reception. We know children need to feel secure, confident and happy in their environment before learning can take place effectively.
Our outdoor area extends our indoor learning and incorporates lots of activities using natural resources. We have a gardening club which enables our children to learn about caring for the plants we are growing and the animals which visit our garden! By following the children’s interests, we find the children are more engaged and inspired, allowing us to meet their individual learning needs and enabling them to reach their full potential.
The children have a snack everyday which consists of milk and different fruit each day such as apples, bananas, pears, carrots and raisins. The children can also bring in their own water bottles which they can access throughout the day.
The children have Library books to take home every Friday. They can then share these with their families which encourages the children to have even more opportunities to hear and share stories regularly. These are to be returned on Monday. We also select a 'Star of the Week' every week. This is to celebrate an achievement that a child has made. We have a special Nursery toy to accompany the child for the weekend, a story to read and a diary for you to write in sharing your experiences. The children then discuss this as a 'Show and Tell' activity.
Each half term you will be given a Newsletter and a curriculum overview which details our focus for that half term and some of the activities we will be experiencing and linking to themes.
If you have any concerns or would like to discuss anything, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff, call the office or email.
We are so excited to help your children grow and develop and have lots of fun!
